Permission for development which will consist of: the construction of a new twelve bay 110kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) building located entirely within the southern portion of the existing Galway 110kV Substation. The proposed GIS building will measure approximately 700 sq.m. with a height of approximately 15 meters; associated development includes: the replacement of three existing 110kV Overhead Line Towers within the substation with three Line Cable Interface Masts (LCIM) proximate to the existing towers to facilitate access of existing transmission circuits to the proposed GIS building by means of underground cables; provision of a temporary internal access route, and vehicular access gate at the south-eastern boundary of the existing substation site to facilitate construction activities.
